With the “cabinet race” between former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former presidential candidate and businessman Mitt Romney, and ex-CIA director David Petraeus coming to a head, it seems that Giuliani and Romney are really the only two candidates the president-elect is seriously considering. With Giuliani being the clear favorite between the three, it was only natural that the other two contenders would attempt to curry as much favor with the quick-congealing Trump administration as possible before a definitive decision is made.
To this end, the former manager for Bain Capital met with Donald Trump today (11/29/16) not at the kind of glitzy, gold-plated five star restaurant one might expect, but at a three Michelin Star abode known as Jean Georges in NY. The third wheel to this peculiar date was soon-to-be Chief of Staff and chairman of the RNC, Reince Priebus. According to read-outs from servers which were provided to local reporters, Priebus and Trump main-coursed on prime sirloin whilst Romney favored lamb chops in mushroom sauce.
Despite Trump and Romney’s heated exchange during the presidential race (with Romney calling Trump a liar and the latter firing back by calling him a “loser.”), both men were photographed smiling and laughing, apparently in good humor. Whether or not this is just a front for the media remains unclear. What is quite clear, however, is that Trump seems, in some ways, to have borne out what he said in a critical tweet to Romney during the presidential race.
“I could have said, ‘Mitt, drop to your knees’ — he would have dropped to his knees.”
Romney, the vociferous #nevertrumper who had previously called Donald Trump, a phony and a fraud, seems indeed to have metaphorically dropped to his knees and eaten his humble pie in his bid for a seat at the table of the Trump administration.
